Project Update - Lord Cultural Resources
October 2024
Last July, I took a hiatus from museum consulting at Lord Cultural Resources for a big cross-border move. Just before I left, I had the pleasure of attending the opening of one of my Lord projects, a permanent exhibit revamp of the Bobby Orr Hall of Fame in Parry Sound, with exhibit design by WeatherstonBruer Associates.
The new exhibit showcases Bobby’s values in sport, his love of Parry Sound, and celebrating local athletes and community builders in sport. I worked closely with the curator and so many wonderful stakeholders for this project who generously shared their knowledge on Georgian Bay, local history, and Indigenous culture. New features include hands-on interactives, participatory activities, a reflection space for the Seven Grandfather Teachings, and an updated Hall of Fame wall inspired by sports trading cards. The exhibit won the International Sports Heritage Association Award for New Exhibit 2024 and the Canadian Association for Sport Heritage Award for Excellence 2022-23.
You can read more about the project here.
Cultural Consulting Project Residency
March 2022
Big thank you to the Ontario Arts Council for awarding me a career development grant in Interpretive Planning and Cultural Consulting. Because of this incredible support, I was able to connect with two wonderful mentors and their teams over the last six months, learn more about the kind of impact I want to make as a cultural worker, and explore new avenues in the museum and publishing sectors. If any BIPOC folks based in Ontario want to know more about this grant or are looking for mentorship in the cultural sector, please reach out. I would love to tell you more about this opportunity.
TAC Writers Grant
October 2021
I’ve been working on a series of essays for the past year. I wanted to acknowledge Toronto Arts Council for giving me the time and space to keep at it. Having this support means I get to continue pursuing the thought tangents, falling down the research hole, indulging in my archive, and coming up with as much nonsense as I do the usable stuff. It’s a real privilege and after a rollercoaster of a year, it’s also a great deal of encouragement. Thank you TAC!
Canada Modern x DesignTO Festival 2021
August 17-29, 2021
Happy to announce the inaugural exhibition of the Canada Modern collection, an archive of modernist Canadian graphic design. I teamed up with graphic designer, creative director, and founder of Canada Modern, Blair Thomson to show off this vibrant era in Canada’s design history. Presented at 313 Design Market in Toronto.
CriticALL!
April 2021
It’s finally here! My flash essay “Instructions for Excited Art Collectors” appears in this collection of 15 essays edited by Joannette van der Veer and designed by Wibke Bramesfeld for Onomatopee Projects. CriticALL! seeks to “break down the often closed circuit of design criticism” to establish “a design criticism for all.”
